Maja Włoszczowska and Bartłomiej Wawak from KROSS ORLEN Cycling Team Polish Champions after MTB XC race in Boguszów-Gorce

Datum: 12.8.2021

A great race performed by Maja Włoszczowska and Bartłomiej Wawak during the MTB Championships of Poland in Boguszów-Gorce. In the elite women's race the rider of the KROSS ORLEN Cycling Team reached the finishing line two minutes ahead of the next participant, while her club-mate Bartłomiej Wawak, after a fierce fight in the elite men's race, was the first to cross the finishing line on the difficult and demanding route.

Maja Włoszczowska won today's race in Boguszów-Gorce, and this is another Polish Champion title in her career. The route was technically very difficult, and additionally, after the night rain, the fragments with protruding roots and stones were very slippery, but Maja Włoszczowska confirmed that she is the best mountain biker in Poland.

- I am very happy with the title of the Polish Champion at my last Polish Championships in mountain biking. Before the start I was quite nervous, because I had a hard two weeks behind me, including the change of the time zone and health problems after my return to Poland, so I was very uncertain about this race. From the very beginning, however, I took the opportunity to make an advantage in one of the difficult sections of the route and decided to attack harder, so that I could continue at an even pace. The last round cost me a lot of strength but, fortunately, the lead was big enough for me to reach the finish line in peace. I would like to thank all the fans who came today to cheer the riders on at the Polish Championships, and I would also like to thank my team, the KROSS ORLEN Cycling Team, which provided me with comfortable conditions. For the first time this season I started on a bike with full suspension - KROSS Earth, the bike worked great on the root route and it gave me the victory - said Maja Włoszczowska after the race.

In the elite men's race the first to cross the finishing line was Maja's club-mate Bartłomiej Wawak, who regained the shirt of the Champion of Poland after a year-long break.

- The fight was very close until the very end and there was no certainty that Bartek would win - says Kornel Osicki, Team Manager of KROSS ORLEN Cycling Team.  - The riders were exchanging the lead, but Bartek was the best at the finish. Although, as he said himself, he did not feel the best today, he showed that he is the best mountain biker in Poland - added Osicki.

- From the start to the finish line we were fighting among several racers. It was not an easy race for me, I still felt the last week's start and the change of the time zone. To some extent, it affected today's predispositions, but I am glad that I managed to win and that in next week's race I will start in the red and white shirt - said Bartłomiej Wawak.

Today's competition ended well for the whole KROSS ORLEN Cycling Team. The third rider of the team - Ondrej Cink won the UCI C3 race in the Czech Stupno. In a week's time we will see Maja Włoszczowska, Bartłomiej Wawak and Ondrej Cink at the European Championships in Serbia. At the end of August the cyclists will compete in the World Championships, and then in the last two editions of the World Cup competitions.
