THE STORY OF Davor Brdjanovic
As a little boy I was already very active. I used to play throughout the whole day and at the age of 3,5 I started my first Judo lessons. First it was more fun and games but as I got older I started to be more and more competitive. I entered my first competition and directly won! After that I competed in numerous competitions up and till the age of 12 and I always placed in the top 3! When I reached the age of 12 I was a brown belt Judoka. Unfortunately I had to wait till I was 16 years old before I could apply for my black belt. This is the time when where I lost my motivation and stopped with Judo.
When I reached the age of 16 I started to have problems with my lower back. My doctor told me that I had to do some kind of sport because I had an athletic physique and was doing sports for years and suddenly stopped. Here is where I decided to go to the gym... But I was only fooling around on the Cross-Trainer since it had a game on it which was activated when using it. I trained for a maximum of 2 months and stopped working out again...
Fast forward to the age of 19 where I started going to the gym again and working out for 3-5 times a week. Up and till the age of 21 I had breaks of 2-5 weeks of not training because of holidays and lack of motivation. As of then I started to get more serious, I tried to eat enough protein and made my own diets with the information I got from friends at the gym and the internet. I saw that my physique was changing rapidly and was motivated more than ever to get bigger and leaner every day. One year later I had a coach who helped me with my diet and training and taught me everything I know right now. Because of him helping me during my competition preparation I managed to win my first competition in 2012! My first Overall Title, the start of many great things in the world of bodybuilding...
Why did you start to use Nutrend products?
Nutrend is one of the few brands in this world that has a very high standard regarding the quality of their products. With a wide range of supplements and with different tastes and flavours I don't have to switch to an other brand. They provide powders, pills, capsuls, drinks, bars and even good-to-go products! Nutrend has everything I need for a fair price!
How do the Nutrend products help you in your sport?
Since I am training heavy and 5-6 times a week I need the right nutrition and supplements to help my body recover before the next training session comes. Food will help you a lot, but the right supplements at the right time are essential to make sure that no loss of muscle or any inflammation occurs. Especially when I am preparing myself for a competition or photo-shoots where it is normal for me to train 2 times a day! Nutrend fuels my body so I can push it to the max!
Which is your favourite Nutrend product and which one do you use the most?
This is quite a hard question to answer... But If I have to choose I would go for the Nutrend BCAA MEGA STRONG POWDER. I always use the BCAA before, during and after training. And if I do fasted cardio I make sure to use it before I start too. Another great product I really like to use during training or just throughout the day is the CARNITINE ACTIVITY DRINK (with caffeine). These drinks have an amazing taste and they help with fat-loss too!

Diet during the competition day is without any doubts important to achieve an outstanding performance. What is your common competition-day diet like?

I always bring white rice with fresh pineapple with me. Also I make sure to have a jar of Nutella and Ricecakes in my bag and last but not least hamburgers from your favourite fast-food restaurant ;-) Another thing I bring with me is a little bottle of Cola and a pre-workout product. If I take these products at the right time during the day I fill out completely and have a great pump on stage!

How do you prepare yourself for contest? Where and how often do you practice?

Depending on my shape I go on a diet 8-12w before a competition. I make sure to train 5-6 times a week and do 2 cardio sessions a day. I always make sure to have one day of rest where I don't train, on this day I also don't do cardio! I take a complete rest and give my body the time to rest and recover.

What is your common training day like?

When preparing for a competition I wake up early and directly take my fat burner in and my BCAA's and start my fasted cardio of max. 30-40min. Directly after cardio I prepare my breakfast and pack my bags to go to work/university. After I am finished I directly go to the gym and take the supplements I need. After my workout of max. 1 hour, and cardio 30-40min, in the gym I go home to prepare my biggest meal of the day. When finished I directly prepare my meals for the next day and then relax and watch some TV.

What is your motivation for hard training?

The things that motivate me are the competitions or photo-shoots I have planned. I am a person that gets the best results under pressure. So the closer I get to my goal the harder I start working out to receive the best possible results in the shortest period of time. I love working out, its sounds crazy but it gives me energy and clears my mind!

Which was the hardest training in your life and why?

I think the training I have to do in the last week before a competition are the hardest for me. You are running low on energy, feeling tired but still you have to give it your all these last days before the competition. Sometimes you just want to stop during the training but you know you have to finish it! Your mind at that point is much stronger than your body and therefore it is able to push you beyond your limits.

Can you describe your best contest? How did it influence you?

The best contest I did was the first one ever. I didn't know what to expect and how hard it could be. During my time on stage I found it so heavy that I wanted to walk off stage. I turned my back towards the crowd and leaned on the stage. The whole crowd was yelling and screaming that I should turn around and face front. I listened to them and after the comparisons were done all athletes walked off stage. My coach and some judges came to me and said I was going to win my class. I didn't believe them up and till the moment we were called on stage for the prize ceremony. I couldn't believe I won my own class and they told me I had to wait for the Overall comparisons. I started pumping up and it gave me energy because of my win. After the Overall comparisons were done another big surprise was waiting for me. I took the first place and received the Overall Title trophy!

This competition influenced me in a way that if you give it your all and don't back down even if things are hard, a lot of great things can happen. Believe in yourself and work hard, the rest will follow!
